Brooke’s Headshot Session

By leahlar

Brooke came into my home studio last weekend for a marathon headshot session. Brooke is an opera singer, and wanted to try different types of headshots ranging from traditional to dramatic to frivolous.

We decided to first attempt something reminiscent of how actors pose, and experimented with different expressions and moods. I really like this one because Brooke looks introspective.

In the next series, we wanted to capture a more traditional and elegant look. As we were setting up the lights in the studio, I realized that we had the most beautiful natural light streaming into the studio through the window! The sky was mostly overcast but the bit of sun that peaked through the clouds provided a really interesting quality of light. This was shot using the window as a light source, and a modeling light for fill.

In this set of photos, we tried to capture something fun that highlighted Brooke’s personality.

As you have probably realized by now, I love to catch people by surprise and photograph them when they aren’t posing for the camera. I prefer this type of photograph because it is natural and honest. This is my favorite photo of Brooke from our session because I feel like it captures her true personality.

Thanks Brooke for helping me test-drive the new studio! I hope you like your shots!
