Statement

My digital photography obsession arises from my desire to catalog and celebrate the personalities of the objects, places, and people I encounter. I strive to make images that pop and inspire curiosity, that force the viewer to see something in a way they wouldn’t ordinarily see it, and, in the case of my portrait work, see something they wouldn’t ordinarily see in themselves.

I create bold, energetic, and whimsical imagery. I use dense colors and geometry to accentuate the theater in everyday living. If an image is successful it will begin as confusing to the viewer and ultimately become comfortable. I maintain a sense of humor in my personal work that I transfer to my portrait work. The images are graphic and indulge any subject’s essence in a way that brings about smiles, and when truly successful, laughter.

I never go out of my way to find images. Wedded to everyday life, I am always prepared to encounter a story, graphic, irony, or brilliant stack of something. These, because they can never be replicated, are my most precious images. My created art is born in the studio out of objects becoming theater.

My portrait and event work extends the style of my personal work by creating vibrant imagery of subjects being themselves. The most essential part of my portrait and wedding work is connecting with my subjects so that they feel comfortable being honest and playful with me. I capture their core personalities by sharing the process with them, encouraging them to be emotional, relaxed, and most importantly, zany.
