Nobles Theatre Collective – Three Farces and a Funeral

November 10, 2009

I got to photograph the Nobles Theatre Collective’s production of Three Farces and a Funeral at Noble and Greenough last night.  As usual I was very impressed and very entertained!  Here are a few of my favorite moments from last night’s performance!

Zombie Prom

July 30, 2009

While I was working at CDIA’s high school summer program last week, Nobles was wrapping up their high school summer theater program and asked me to come in to shoot one of their rehearsals.  I was torn because it conflicted with an afternoon at the photo program, but there was no way I could refuse when they were putting on a production of the musical Zombie Prom.  Everyone knows I can’t resist anything zombie-related, so I left the photo program early one afternoon to check out the performance!

Contrary to what I had made up in my head prior to seeing the musical, the show was not about a bunch of zombies who decide to have a prom.

It was about a high school girl who falls in love with the high school rebel in the 50s.

When her boyfriend dies, she goes into mourning and nobody is really being supportive.

Especially the principal, who is just downright mean.

Everything’s moving along just fine until…

… her boyfriend returns from the dead as a nuclear ZOMBIE!!!

Love brought him back from the dead, so the Zombie, of course, wants his girl back.  But she thinks that’s sort of weird!

In fact, mostly everyone thinks the whole situation is sort of werid, except for a local reporter who hears about the story and takes up the Zombie’s cause!  The Zombie becomes super popular!

The students at the high school decide they are for Zombie rights.

The principal is really mad, and threatens to… gasp… cancel prom if the Zombie comes!

Everyone is conflicted.

The reporter shows up to talk to the principal – turns out they have a sordid past together!

The prom goes on!

And the girl and the Zombie are voted King and Queen!

After a big reveal (I won’t give it all away), everyone lives happily ever after (well, except the Zombie, because he’s not of the living).

Anyway, as usual, the Nobles students put on a great show.  I can’t believe how much they put together in less than two weeks!  Well done!

Super Time Pilot

June 10, 2009

Super Time Pilot is a Boston-based duo that will be releasing a CD this summer.  I met up with them last Friday to take some photographs for their CD cover, and to shoot some promo shots!

These are some of my favorites from the promo session.  I am not going to show you the cover just yet – you’ll have to wait until their CD comes out this summer!

We got really lucky with the weather.  It was supposed to rain, but instead there was just enough cloud cover to give us beautifully perfect soft light.

I really like this next set!

Here are some great candid moments!

This was a really fun shoot – I always enjoy working with other creative professionals to make photographs!  So if you know any bands, actors, comedians, musicians, singers or dancers who need headshots or promo material, send them my way!

Thoroughly Modern Millie – On Stage!

Thoroughly Modern Millie

May 13, 2009

I had the great pleasure of photographing the Nobles Theatre Collective’s production of Thoroughly Modern Millie this week!  As is always the case, I was super impressed with the students’ dedication and talent.   I was also thoroughly confused because the staged production is very very very different from the film, which stars the always amazing Julie Andrews.  One of the best differences was that there are way more songs and numbers in the stage version.  Yay!

Here are a few of my favorites from what takes place behind-the-scenes.

The Performance Factory – Show 2009!

March 17, 2009

This is the second year that I photographed The Show for The Performance Factory, and much like last year, I was super impressed!  The talent and dedication of the students really shows during the performance numbers.  The numbers involved everything from dancing nuns to showtunes to pirates – argh!

Thanks for checking out the photos – to see more, become a fan of Leah LaRiccia Photography on Facebook!

Reckless

March 2, 2009

I photographed Noble and Greenough’s production of Craig Lucas’ Reckless last week.   As usual I was super impressed with the talent and dedication of the students.  I was mostly impressed with the snow special effect and the amazing light during that scene, so please don’t be angered by the many many many photos I will include of the snow.

Dance class!

February 16, 2009

I decided to take my new camera for a test drive last week and photographed a ballroom dance class in Waltham.  I was really there to take a group shot of the students, but ended up hanging out for the entire class in pursuit of interesting moments and expressions.

Here are some of my favorites from the night!

And in case you were wondering: I HEART my new camera.  The noise reduction, the sharpness, the full-frame-ness, and most importantly, the color!  Oh, the color!  The colors are so rich and deep and delicious.  It’s a dream!

Noble and Greenough – The Love of the Nightingale – Part 2

November 19, 2008

And now for the play itself!!! It was very dramatic – if you read the Wikipedia entry I linked to in the first part of the post, you already know that the play is really tragic. I mean really really tragic. I tried to select some really really tragic-looking photos for your… enjoyment? The production was depressingly fantastic – lies, villainy, tragedy, characters being killed off left and right, and all manner of tragic things. I am so very impressed by the talent and while I was nostalgic for the good ol’ days of being on the drama crew, I was also really embarrassed by our productions after seeing this.
